The Management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife, Osun State, has announced the shut down of the institution.
This follows a protest on Friday by aggrieved students of the University over the death of one of their colleagues and 400-level student of the Department of Foreign Languages, Aishat Adesina.
The angry students had also blocked the Ede/Ife road and the Ife/Ibadan expressway.
In a statement on Friday by the varsity’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, the institution announced the immediate closure of OAU and ordered students to vacate their halls of residence before 12pm on Saturday (today).
Similarly, the management also put on hold the swearing-in of the newly elected Students’ Union officials, pending review of the situation.
It would be recalled that the Students had alleged that negligence by workers at the university’s Health Centre caused the student’s death.
