The Ranking Web or Webometrics, the “largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institution” has released a list containing top universities in Nigeria.
The global educational body said its ranking is based on the assessment of Composite Indicators and Web Impact Factors.
Analysis of the latest ranking showed that no Nigerian university was among the top 1,000 in the world.
However, the University of Ibadan, Covenant University, and Obafemi Awolowo University were ranked top in Nigeria by Webometrics in its latest rating.
Specifically, University of Ibadan was rated 1,196 globally while Covenant University, emerged 1,314 and Obafemi Awolowo University was at number 1,503.
Similarly, the University of Nigeria and the University of Lagos emerged fourth and fifth in Nigeria respectively.
According to The Ranking Web or Webometrics, the publication of rankings is one of the most powerful and successful tools for starting and consolidating the processes of change in the academia, increasing the scholars’ commitment and setting up badly needed long term strategies.
